Newbie Building First Silent System
Hi there.
I am currently getting all my parts read to build my first ever silent system.
So far I have:
Antec SLK3000B Atx Super Mid Tower
Seasonic S12-430W -power Supply By Seasonic Electronics
Thermaltake Big Typhoon CPU Cooler, Model "CL-P0114
P4 3.2
Asus P5GD2-Premium
2 X 250gig HD
DVD-RW
CDRW
Still have to get:
2 gig of DDR2 Ram
PCI-E Video Card
Floppy?
Missing:
More fans?
Just wonder if I need more fans and if it'll still be a quiet unit with more fans.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

It'll be more difficult if it's a Prescott, but not impossible. Right now I have a rig with only fans running, both undervolted Nexus fans, and it's below 20db. The buzzing from the Phantom is more audible in an extremely quiet room than my fans.Flo-Job wrote:Did you already buy the P4? Cause if you did, then it'll be really hard to make your system quiet. The P4 is much too warm for a silent system, an Athlon 64 with Venice core is much cooler. Did you think of an HDD suspension yet?

For a no mod solution I like the HDD on Sorbothane strips at the bottom of the case. You just need to remember it's just sitting there and not turn your case sideways / upside down before removing the drive. Search for Sorbothane in the forums - they're not expensive and available from McMaster Carr.djlin wrote:The suspensions for the HD is pretty cool. Knowing me I will probably destroy the case or damage something.
Depends on CPU, case, and overclock... If you wonder if temperature might be limiting your overclock, open the side panel and point a box fan into the PC.djlin wrote:Also another question. Is one case fan and CPU fan enough if I try to overclock the CPU?
