AN8 Ultra - Two Mundane Questions

Post by mdl » Sat Jul 02, 2005 7:26 pm

I have decided to buy this mobo... two questions I have not seen well answered in my many, many searches:

o it lists optical sp/dif in and out. Is this really true? It does seem to have optical out. However, it is not clear to me what the digital input is.

o I was going to run with a Venice 3000 and I keep debating whether I should run a Thermalright XP90 or an XP120 (with nexus fans either way). Is it really worth shelling out more coin for the XP120 in this situation?

Thx...

if you are going to overclock maybe get 120

if you are super anal about noise and want to get as low RPM as possible maybe get 120

The connector is on the AudioMax (optical spdif)

Thx... worried more about noise... and the specs say the Nexus 120mm is *louder* than the 92mm. This is why I wonder about noise being better with the 92mm. Definitely more air flow with the 120, at lower rpm.

Thx Tommy... that part I get. What I do not get is the top connector is definitely an optical output. The one below it should be an optical input. However, it is a mini plug. If you look at the picture here:

It is marked as spdif/line in. It no longer appears to be an optical input and I would like to know if it offers any digitial input. Thx.

Ohhh... my mistake. But Fata1ty AN8's AudioMax does appear to have to s/p dif in and out. But that's not the mobo you want.

I think the rest of your stuff would have to be REALLY quiet to be able to hear a fully undervolted nexus 120 inside the case.

You could always use a smaller fan on the XP120 as well if you want....not sure if it would require some creative mounting though....
