I just read on nVidia's website that the 6600 (non GT) and 6600LE are now suported (via new drivers) in SLI mode. Before, it was reserved only for 6600GT and up, but now vanilla 6600's are supported.
What does that mean?
I am looking for silent yet fast video card that is PCI-Express for a new system build. I was looking at the 6600GT's because they match my budget and performance criterias.
What I didn't like though is that they are not passively cooled (except some Gigabyte models which are having heating problems I hear) and they put out lots of heat.
The 6600's are usually much cooler, most of them are even passively cooled! With SLI support for the 6600's I can now get 2 of them in SLI to get even or higher performance than a single 6600GT for about the same price and those are 2 passively cooled cards we are talking about!
Talk about silent performance!
my question is:
will the power draw of 2 regular 6600's be much higher than one 6600GT?
And secondly, does anyone have a PCI-Express 6600 non GT who can tell me what kind of heat output to expect from the regular 6600 VS the 6600GT?
thanks a lot
nVidia GeForce 6600 & 6600LE now support SLI!

Yeah, I was afraid so.
And looking it up, it would also drive power consommation up too...
I will either get a good 6600 and use an aftermarket cooler on it or get a Gigabyte passive card.
Can anyone tell me my options for aftermarket VGA coolers for a PCI-Express 6600GT?
I know of the Zalman VF-700 (using fan) and ZM80 (fanless) but what are the others? I heard about Aerocool but don't know much about it and heard that thermalright might be developping one too. What about it?

If you want silent, stay away from the zalman. Unless you want to take the stock fan off of there and replace it with a quieter one that runs at lower RPMs. Even at its 5v it is the loudest component in my system
I dont think the fanless zalman heatstink will work with a 6600, but I dont know.
The new thermalright VGA heatsinks are second to none. Best thing is that you can attach any one (or two!) 80mm fans to it. You have your choice. It will work just fine on your 6600GT.

There is a review on it.
You forgot to mention one other thing. Watercooling for your VGA card
But the thermalright seems the way to go. Combining it with a low speed 80mm fan and you are good to go. Only thing is...it isnt available yet
Just going to have to be paitent, hopefully they will have it released soon.
