Maybe Gigabyte will take up the challenge? Still, I want an even lower-heat card, something like a 7600, that can run stock passively cooled without too much heat. But I'm sure NVIDIA's 6600 series parts take care of the midrange market nicely, and we won't see any mainstream 7 series cards soon.cotdt wrote:You can passively cool these things I'm 99% sure. They eat up 50W less power than nvidia 6800Ultra and Radeon 850XT.
Who knows for sure?

Just collected one of the Leadtek/Winfast 7800 GTs. It's very loud at boot, but once the drivers load, the fan speed is reduced dramatically. Runs fairly quietly (and at ~40 degrees C) in a P180 (rear fan on low, watercooled CPU).
This is a temporary card - will be replacing it with two passively-cooled 6600GTs so I can support 4 LCD panels.

I can confirm this - I'm running a passively cooled 7800GT right now. Read my other post about mounting the Zalman ZM80D-HP on it.cotdt wrote:You can passively cool these things I'm 99% sure. They eat up 50W less power than nvidia 6800Ultra and Radeon 850XT.
