Pentium4 2.4C Undervolted to 1.1V

Post by elg2001 » Fri Aug 26, 2005 10:55 am

Just thought I would share with you guys a successful undervolt from the default 1.5V and change down to 1.1V. I am running an asus p4c800-e deluxe with the latest firmware (1023 i believe). I'm using AI Booster to undervolt. Dropped my idle CPU temp from 36C to 30C.

I've tested this with games, etc. and it's been running perfectly stable for the past few weeks with no reboots due to cpu instability. I've run multiple simultaneous prime95s in addition to cpu burn-in with no problems and I think the cpu temp peaked at 40C or so. May have been 1 or 2C lower or higher than that.

Just FYI. :)

Did you CPUBurn / Prime95 it to see if it's stable?

Either I'm blind or he added it in after my reply.

In either case, nevermind :)

Slightly OT, but how low can Prescott cores generally be undervolted? Now that I think about it, I don't believe I've heard of a single Prescott undervolt. Surely there are some out there, though?

actually i posted it and then immediately went back and added that middle part. so i probably posted the edit slightly after he posted his comment. it's ok i don't mind :)

if you all want a screenshot of AI Booster running (which displays the CPU voltage and temperature) just let me know.

How do you save the setting in AI Booster?

AI Booster allow me to undervolt, and I can save it to the 3 slots for pre-set that they have. However, everytime I load those pre-set it always go back to default.

Edit: mine is P4P800E-deluxe with P4 2.8C on it.

you know, for all these forum entries....

I really never ever saw anyone undervolt p4's.

I mean, it should be able to be done. AND a prescott at 90nm should be easier to undervolt.

Have we missed something or does it not work?

Works great, there's just not too many S478 boards that undervolt.

A modest undervolt of 1.25V on my P4 2.6C. Anything below 1.15 is not stable. CPU idles @ 37C and climbs to 52C under extended load with L1A @5V (see sig).

oh. so that's like slightly worse than a venice core. at least its dirt cheap and you can buy one on ebay for next to nothing.

Thanks. I just bought the 2.6C yesterday because I thought it would be faster and cooler than the Venice core. :D

I run my P4 undervolted. It's a lowly Northwoord 2.53, which for the time being is down from 1.525V to 1.4V. I did get it down to 1.2 by clocking down to 1.9GHz. All of this is done with the Gigabyte windows utility.

The only Asus boards I've had have been AMD and don't do underclocking, as much as I'd like them to (as I have a Barton Mobile 35W, which is at 2.2GHz on 1.65V).

And all my desktops + server are folding whenever they're on (most of the time).

You missed something....:)

I ran undervolted/underclocked P4 2.4 @ 1.8Ghz, 1.2V after read information here. Temp load can never reach 43C, while normal setting easily reach 50C.

P4 Northwood is not like AMD Winchester/Venice chip which can undervolted until 0.8 - 0.9V. Make it less famous for undervolted, but much better than Presscot counterpart.
