This is my opinion, because i can never be hundred percent sure.

The good models are from 2005 and have purple quality stickers on the side(mine has 5 stickers), blue stickers were used on the older phantom's.

EDIT: 2005 models have a D05xxxxxxxxxx serial(random amount of x'es)

A detailed thread on that is at

In short, there's no guarantee that every new unit will be flawless, but your chances seem much better with the newer ones. I've been happy with mine for a couple of months.

I went to a PC Warehouse the other day, and asked if they had any Phantoms in stock. They didnt, and so they had to order it in from Antec. I went back to the PC Warehouse today, as they have informed me that it has arrived. Since this is late 2005, I expected to see a 2005 model, but instead, I saw a 2004 model, by looking at the serial number. Are all 2004 models from the bad batch? I didnt buy it in the end as I wasnt sure if I should get the 2004 stock.

The 2004 with purple stickers are good. As long as you've got the purple stickers you're OK.

These are purple stickers?

Looks like I have to actually buy one, and then open it up.

Got a purple one. Seems to work for far without any hiccups.

Having used it for two hours, with a gaming session with FIFA 06 Demo, and net surfing, the Phantom is hot.

Should I be alarmed?

Its 2:33AM in the morning btw, so its cooler than normal.

No ... stress the power supply and you can expect it to heat up. This is true even of fanned PSUs. On the other hand, "hot" doesn't tell me much. There is, of course, a point when a PSU can overheat.

Generally speaking, as long as there is a small amount of airflow around the Phantom (from a case fan, for example), it should be fine.

Yeah, I didnt have any casefans, as I wanted to reduce the level of noise. I hooked one up, and my PSU has not been as hot like last night.

Thanks for the input guys!
