AOpen 350watt - Enough Power?

Post by Bobendren » Tue Oct 04, 2005 3:51 am

Ok, i've read most of the psu articles on this site, but i'd still like some opinions.

Putting together the following system:

Athlon64 3500+
NF4 Mobo
PowerColor X800GT
1 x 160Gb Sata HDD
1 x DVD Writer
2 x 512MB RAM

Would the AOpen 350watt have enough power for the above mentioned system? Unfortunatley i don't know the amps. And the model i'm after (ATX-Z350) isn't listed on AOpen's website.

Yeah, should be fine. AOpen branded PSUs are actually rebadged Fortrons.

Ok, i managed to find out the amp ratings, they are as follows:

3.3v.........20
5v............20
12v(1)......14
12v(2).......8

Will that be alright for the system i specified above?

Yeah, should work just fine. Your CPU and motherboard will draw 6A tops from the 12V1 rail, and 8A on the 12V2 rail should be sufficient for an X800GT + hard drive and optical drive. None of your components are very power hungry :)

Hi

I'm in RSA as well and have done quite a bit of searching for info on those Aopens. Currently, the only unit which is verifiable as a rebadged Fortron PSU, is the AX500-a. The Z350 and Z450 are not. Having said that, the 350W should be fine for a non-overclocked PC matching your spec. If you want an extra percentage-worth's peace-of-mind, go for the Z450, since it's pretty cheap.

You're the first South African i've encountered on these forums...i'm not alone :)

I thought as much considering they're so cheap and none of the offerings on Rectron's pricelist are on AOpen's website. I originally opted for the 400watt but they don't have any stock...*sigh*

Thanks for the replies.

AOxxx-12ALN = FSPxxx-12GLN (GreenPower)
AOxxx-12AHN = FSPxxx-12THN (Bluestorm)

no idea about the Zxxx-ATX, though. I guess they're the 80mm versions of the Bluestorm ?

The 350watt has a 80mm fan, not sure about the others.
