Orange yate loon, reporting 1500 rpm?

Post by nutbar » Sun Oct 09, 2005 8:44 pm

I have two orange yate loon 120mm fans in my system. At first I just had one, connected to a zalman fanmate at max setting. It would report around 1380rpm all the time. I removed the fanmate from the connection, now it's reporting about 1490rpm all the time. I replaced a case fan with another orange yate loon, using the same fanmate at the same setting (max), is reporting what the other fan did, 1380rpm. Both fans are powered and reported through the motherboards fan connectors.

I thought these fans were rated for 1300rpm at 12v. 1380 seems fine, but 1500 seems a bit high. Is my motherboard reporting it wrong? Is it being overvolted? Am I going to have a fried fan? IS THE SKY FALLING?

It's called tolerence. It's rated 1350rpm + or - 10%. 1350 * 110% = 1485 rpm. Now this falls below what you're reading, but fans' rpm is generally rated free air. Adding resistance to your fan (putting it in a case) will increase it's speed as well. This is nothing to worry about so long as the noise doesn't bother you.

note: my "panic" is sarcasm.

The main observation made was that with the FanMate, I'm running 1380rpm. Without the FanMate I appear to be running 1490rpm. I guess the fanmate runs it slower even at the max setting. It's also strange that both of the fans run at the same 1380 when using the fanmate on max.

Yup, the fanmate is 5-11V
