2.5" Western Digital Scorpio WD800UE any good ?

Post by seforo » Sun Nov 06, 2005 1:58 am

Hello all :)

Have been looking at this forum for a while now and just LOVE the tips and tricks to a silent pc

Was wondering if anyone has experiences with a Western Digital Scorpio WD800UE - 80GB (5400rpm, ATA100, 2MB)
Seeing the price of it (about 70 Euro's) i think this is a very nice price for 80GB.

But am curious about any clicks/ticks/noise it may produce.
Am going to put the drive inside a HD case.

Hope someone can share experiences :)

Thanks

Hi seforo

Welcome to SPCR!

The scorpio's pretty good, the 8Mb version has a review:

I guess the 2Mb model will be very similar.

Thanks for your reply

Looking into the review now.
As it will be used in a HD case where pictures will be transfered too alot (preferably fast !) and also data, is 2mb really sufficient ?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the 8Mb version will be a little faster than the 2Mb, maybe better to describe it as more responsive, but the rotation speed is the biggest factor to be concerned with. There probably won't be any noticable difference with sustained transfers.
If it only costs a little more I would go for it.

You may or may not get a clicker...might be pot luck I'm afraid.
