Wasn't going to play this round, but after last round I saw how awesome a lot of the race-specific agents can be; at one point I had 50 reinforced cells, though I didn't do much with them (really!). I'm going to try focusing almost entirely on intelligence this entire round, so I can't really post my name etc here, think I've already allied with everyone who posted here though.

Welcome to SR. Check out the forums, especially the "In Character" thread titled "How to cook an egg". If you have any questions, just send a message to the Food Network or post on the forums there. SR *is* strangely compelling, though the first little bit is a bit slow to build.

Be sure toe read some of the noobie help stuff that's been posted.

The Food Network always needs sous-chefs and dishwashers. Send'em over and we won't have to go scrounging in other people's kitchens...

Tragus being blamed for that big jump in prestige that was actually due to neither divert nor pop from Tobias = grandest irony of all :D

S'OK. Around my house (especially with an 11-year old young woman), I'm used to being blamed as the cause of everything horrible and bad.

Except when it can be blamed on the cat....

Hello SR!

Post by wainwra » Mon Oct 24, 2005 4:48 am

Well, I joined - a couple of days ago now.

My first thoughts were, "huh? er, now what?". (The game is very light on help for the newbie, you know!)

But I stuck at it, and am now starting to obsess over trying to overtake the chap just above me (I'm in position 83 ouch) and planning my life around when the next research item gets completed.

I'm very aware that as both a newbie and a late-starter, I'm canon-fodder/a sitting duck/low-hanging fruit. Any advice/alliances/forbearance from you experts would be extremely welcome!

Kral, of the planet Limba.

#1 priority for a late-to-the-party planet should be: Get your Intel Agency up and running ASAP. One of the most frustrating things about coming into a round late is that the existing planets will wait until your 250 turn "safe time" is up, and then fill your planet with spies. Get a stockpile of agents (100 or so) and start running sweeps on your planet every few turns to get, and keep, your alert level up close to 100.

And welcome to the Galaxy!

This from Kral: "Intelligence? One of our better qualities, you know! I must say, our agents seem to have been jolly busy catching those foreign chappies recently. Beastly business."

bah. logged in once yesterday, was getting like 6 turns every 20 mins, it died after a half hour. logged in just now to see my research and massive fleet both finished (two of the turns were 12 hours apart) and it broke again before I could start more research. :(

at least I'm not still stuck at 3% tax, would have had like -15k income after all the construction.

Is everyone else also now getting a password prompt, whenever you hit any page (including the forums) on SR?

As of about 2pm Eastern the login screen has changed, and now bears this message:

We apologize for the inconvenience.
I read between the lines a: "I'm working on it, quit bugging me!" message too.

Sounds like more serious issues than the usual db corruption. Personally, I wouldn't be opposed to just tanking the rest of this round so Vork can focus on the changes he wants to make for next. Why work to fix code that you know isn't going to be used in the next version.

Sounds like a plan to me, even though I'm doing better then I usually do.

But what if something that will be continued is borked? I don't see a reason in tanking the round for that. Just stall it untill he finishes.

Turns started turning again yesterday according to the analyst report.

I am sad to announce that the server I was hosting the stats page on has crashed and the admin in charge of it and the project I was working on (which is how i got the space), will be moving to a new server. However, there is no eta or garuntee that I will have hosting again.

I'm guessing Ohmm's page is still up? It looks like the stats page may need a new home, though when it will have a use may be another question.
