looking for a decent short-depth optical drive for my HTPC

Post by krick » Tue Jul 11, 2006 6:18 pm

Can anyone recommend a decent short-depth optical drive with a black bezel for my m-ATX HTPC case?

The case will fit a full length drive but I'd like to have a little more room to try to squeeze in a quieter Zalman "flower" type cooler.

In this pic, you can see how the back of the DVD-ROM drive intrudes on the CPU heatsink space...

Hello,

Samsung or Sony make good quiet optical drives, in my experience. And both are a short as I've seen -- they do not protrude from the back of the Evercase 4252 drive bay.

I have a nec 3540 and I remember when I got it thinking how short it was compared to my old optical drive.

You might consider a laptop optical drive.....like this. It requires a $10 adaptor and some modding to fit, but it's 1/5 the size of a std optical drive. It will solve your space problems.....mine works great.[/url]

I've been searching a short drive as well,
the mininmal depth I found was 165mm,
I will go for the Lg GSA-H10N as it is also pretty cheap.
