A/C Alpine beats MINE and XP-90!

Post by bendit » Thu Aug 10, 2006 1:58 pm

at least on my little nsk3300. Kind of depressing
in that I got the Alpine for $11 shipped! The Alpine wins by a few degrees. Then the Mine by a couple of degrees and then the XP-90. The mine and A/C were blowing at 12v and the xp-90 was a low speed 80mm at ~ 6v. ;-) Maybe that's why.

That is really weird... a block of aluminum (with no heatpipes) outperforming the Mine? Maybe that rear 120mm case fan is helping it out...either that or thermal compound application might've been "off" on the other two. Or mounting pressure. What's that Alpine cooling?

I might have the mine fan blowing the wrong way.
do you know how it should be oriented on a abit kv-85 m/b?

Try orienting the Mine so that the fan's exhaust goes toward the rear exhaust fan, if possible. If the Mine's fan and the case exhaust fan fight against each other, performance will suffer.

so the mine fan should be oriented in the same way as the exhaust if they are in line like they are on my motherboard? Does that mean the arrow points toward the exhaust?

Yes.

Quick ascii:

exhaust . . Mine
| <- . . . . . | <- |
| <- . . . . . | <- |

switched the fan around and lost 1 degree C on the move
but the HD is now a wee bit cooler. I have to say that the Alpine beats
the MINE in this little case. Hard to believe but I think even in the review they
got some very surprising results with it. It is one great cooler
imo. And maybe the MINE is a bit weak for its MASS and pain
in small cases?
