They make noise, too.

Artic Cooling X1 or Stock cooler for 7900 GTX

Post by falcon26 » Sat May 20, 2006 1:53 pm

I know the stock cooler for the 7900 GTX's boards are really quiet and efficent. But would putting on a a X1 lower the noise even more or are they about the same? Also would your temps be better worse or the same using he X1? The reason I ask is I haven't found a review on this cooler the X1 when using a 7900 GTX.

Thanks

I would be interested in the answer as well :). Did anyone try an Accelero X1 on a 7900 GTX and compared it to the reference stock cooler in noise and performance?

It's not X1 on a 7900 GTX, but on a 7800 GTX 512, which is about 11W hotter and has the same cooling solution (fan settings may be a bit different however):

I'm suspecting that unless you really need the tiny improvement going from the GTX stock cooler to the Accelero, it's going to be a waste of time and money. I find the stock cooler to be very impressive and not something you'd want to take out, especially if you undervolt a bit to keep temps under 70C. Do you own a 7900GTX and find it to be too noisy? There's no reason to think about this until you try it out imho.

If you replace the stock cooler, replace it with something like Thermalright HR-03.
