NoiseMagic website says they are out of business, any alternative to their NMT-3 fan controller?
oh damn sorry, I thought those things were made by Silicon Acoustics. Seems like they are only a redistributor? And you can see there http://order.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/wg ... nacoustics that they are out of business. Seems like I'll have to learn deutch? or is there somewhere else in Canada or US I can buy?

The NoiseMagic controllers I referred to look like this.....
They have a sensor directly soldered to the little board. If you want to use them as a case fan that cools the CPU for instance, you have to cut the sensor off the board, and add an extension to get an accurate reading off the CPU.
The nice part of these things.....analog voltage, work off a MB header, rpm still readable, have a 12V burst to start the fans, and react very quickly to temp changes. The rpm rises smoothly with a gradual curve.
Can't find any on E-Bay either.....

I suppose it is still available in Europe, directly from NoiseMagic. It's in the section called
Thermoregelung, in the Lufter (fan) section. The one to get is the NMT-3 mit Stecker (comes with fan plugs and a connector wire). This one varies the voltage from 5-12v, at temperatures from 28-42C. The NMT-2 goes from 28-50C, which makes it very difficult to find a sensor location that will ever allow a full 12v to the fan.

Good news! Found the NMT-3 in the US
Found it!

I've used these in many builds and they work great. With the right fan, your machine will be very quiet while cool, fan speed ramps up responsively when needed.
Cheers

That phrasing, plus the absence of a heatsink, make me smell PWM.NightFlyer wrote:With the right fan, your machine will be very quiet...

PWM?......Can't say for sure, but there is no evidence for me. The fans I've tried with this controller, show no extra noises. This is by far the best, most responsive fan controller I've ever used.
Except for the short sensor that needs to be extended, these things can't be beat. The fan speed follows the rising temperature of the sensor perfectly....when they say 28C-42C, they mean it. Your fan will start every time at 5V, because of the short 12V burst. Get one while you can.....I just ordered four more.

No sign of PWM with any fans I've used with these. The controller actually modulates DC voltage rather than pulse it. I haven't had any signs of extra noise generated by the controller. With larger fans (big 120mm .70+ amp) there's a chip that gets quite warm on the controller, but with normal (.4 and below amp) fans the NMT-3 doesn't even get that warm. It really is a great design and works exactly as they promise.
This fan controller by Evercool is intended for the CPU fan but it may, depending on the temperature to voltage settings, be suitable for case fans, and it is cheap from here:

I just extended the sensor on a few of my new NoiseMagic controllers.....The procedure and photos are in this thread
