Will a Scythe Ninja fit in here?

Post by stevenkelby » Thu Dec 21, 2006 12:27 am

And I can't see how a 120mm case fan can fit, should I throw out the existing case fan and put a 120 on the side panel (removed in the pic, so I could take the pic!)

I want to make my PC as quiet as possible, starting with the CPU fan.

Is a Ninja the "best "option and will it fit ok?

Thanks,

Steve.

Well, to me it looks like the ninja's gonna be a very very tight fit, if its gonna fit at all. You should consider buying a new case. :?

A 120mm fan will not fit in that back panel.

Thanks for the reply.

I put up another pic showing more of the case.

I'd like to keep the case, as I don't have heaps of time or knowledge to swap everything over. It is a possibility though, which case should I get???!!! :-) Thats a whole other can of worms and I assume it's more expensive than just apgrading the fans in this case.

I don't see why the ninja won't fit, but would hate to get it and find out it won't. If it won't fit, what will? Any links to something equally quite?

Can I just remove that case fan and screw one into the side of the case (pictured) if it won't fit I guess I can just drill new holes?

Thanks for the help!

If it will all fit, hows this for a shopping cart from PC Case Gear:

Scythe Ninja Plus Cooler SCNJ-1100P SCY-NINJA $75.00

Seasonic S12 Energy Plus 550W SEA-S12-550 $199.00

Scythe S-FLEX 120mm Fan SFF21D SCY-SFLEXD $29.95

Sub-Total (Tax Total $27.63): $303.95

Or any better ideas?

Is that in AUD or something? 75USD is very expensive for a ninja, some people have got it for 35usd new. I believe it cost about 45$ normally.

Also you didnt tell waht components you have, biut most likely a 350W PSU will be more than enough.

You could also get something like a yate-loon for 5$ instead of paying 30$ for the s-flex, the loon is most likely meven quieter at similar RPM.

Hi,

Yes, sorry that is in Aussie dollars.

I have a P4 3.2, 1 HDD, 1 optical drive. No gaming, mainly net and high end headphones so need quiet, not power.

I don't mind spending, but don't mind saving either! Just want simple parts that will fit easily in my limited space.

Now Im thinking of a Thermalright XP-90C and a Nexus 92mm fan for it, and the same fan for the case?

Not sure about PSU but may go with the one I mention above.

Honestly, you dont need 550w. My system draws 250W max, idle is 110W or so. You would be surprised to see how much a quality 300W psu will run :) Read the stickies in the PSU forum and the PSU articles on the main site. You should be able to get a S12 380 for half the price of the energy plus model, and it would still be powerful enough for future upgrades.

The XP90C and nexus fans should be good. And you should definately cut out the grille, from the pic it looks very restrictive. There should be a sticky in the cases forum on how to remove the grilles :)

COmpletely unrelated, i dont like typoing on an unfgamiliar and cramped laptop keyboard.

Yeah I know that PSU is way overkill, I just picked it cause it's quiet.

Any suggestions for something equally quiet, but cheaper?

They make lower-wattage S12s.... they are cheaper AND quieter.

IIRC there are 350- and 430-watt versions.

Oopsie, i forgot about this thread. the other S12 models re nearly as quiet, 1-2dB difference under 150W and after that the other S12 models ramp up faster than the energy plus. Something like the 380W version costs less than half the price of the energy plus though. And you can get a good fanless psu for less money than the energy plus, so i would just get the fanless or then go with a cheaper S12 and do a fan swap. Most people are probably happy with the noise levels of a stock seasonic.

That was the cheapest quiet PSU that I could find in a store that stocked the other bits I wanted too. It's also the equal quietest one in the PSU guide on this site. I think the 500/600 ones are noisier, but the 550 energy + is very quiet.

About $320 AUD for everything delivered here to Adelaide.

The 120mm fan wont fit, but I will cut a hole in the side, top or bottom for it. When it comes I plan to hang the HD from elastic too.

Is it ok to hang optical drives from elastic?

Any other tips for quieting optical drives, as that will be the only loud part left?
