They make noise, too.

anyone have experience the XFX 7950GT in an Antec SOLO? this is my prospective case, and though I don't plan on using the PC for games (it is for music recording), I am curious to see if the case factor is going to keep my 7950GT from performing properly. I plan on having a Ninja Scythe in the case as well with a single 120mm Nexus handling the exhaust work. Also, there will be 2x500GB HDs in the case.

If it's not being used for games, why a 7950GT?!

Games included with the MSI 7950GT silent?

Post by Chaendler » Sun Dec 03, 2006 3:16 pm

By the way, someone can tell me which games comes in the MSI bundle?

Because in MSI's website you can see that it can come with Toca 3 :)

Indeed, its a waste. A 7300GS has extremely low power usage and will probably fit your needs. What monitor(s) are you trying to drive ?

because the rig also performs a good amount of video rendering via a Steinberg Nuendo post-production setup. I tried lower power cards and experienced a good amount of jittering which is unacceptable when you are trying to sync and complete post production work.

A good number of video editors I know employ gaming cards for their work. I happen to do music AND post-production work. I want to take advantage of the upgrade to get something that will tide me over for a few years.

the card will drive a dual monitor setup of two Eizo 24.1" LCDs.

Anyone tried this card and the Silverstone LC-20 (or LC-18) case?

Thanks

Ah, fair enough abyssinianson.

Purely from what the others have said, as it has good airflow it should be ok, i'd almost be inclined to say you may require another fan (and perhaps the P180 instead) also.

What is your current thinking ?

hey guys, do you think that a 1x card would fit underneath this card's heatsink?

Hey folks,

Considering one of these for a parent's computer they complain is too loud... case is an Antec SLK1650B:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811129150

I'm worried that the additional silver finned part of the heatsink will come into contact with the side panel of the case, since that additional heatsink component makes the card very "wide" in the installed orientation. I've read through this thread and haven't seen anybody using this card in either the Antec Solution series I've got or the new New Solutions that replaced them... any thoughts for me?

1 exhaust Noctua 120mm fan on Zalman Fanmate at max
1 intake Nexus 120mm fan on Zalman Fanmate at max
Antec NSK3300 case

48-55C idle, 69-87 load. Ouch.

Mikey,

Where might I put the second fan for the best results? As an intake or exhaust? I was thinking that having a fan on the Ninja Scythe heatsink (120mm?) moving air towards a 120mm exhaust case fan blowing air out of the case will work well. Thoughts? I was originally thinking of a BFG 7600 with one of the Zalman fans to make things quiet so if this is a better, more stable configuration, I might opt for that instead of the 7950GT if it will keep things more stable in the long run. As much as I would like to believe that the 7960GT was designed to operate higher temps than a card with a fan cooler, I am still somewhat wary of things that might go wrong if the temps do have an adverse effect over time. I am still sitting on the fence to see what will work best.

weird, my 610M 7950GT was idling in 2D windows overnight and I woke up to a battery of nVIDIA Sentinel 'insufficient power, clocking down' errors'.

i never checked clock speed before using rivatuner but it seems to be at 570 now, not 610. odd.

I have the 570 "extreme" version, and it idles at 58 and load varies between 86 and... 102! I can only get to 102 when playing Trackmania Nations though. Everything else it seems to not go any higher than 86. Still really high considering the airflow in my case. :(

No artifacts or other problems though, so I guess I'm ok. If I knew what I know now though, I probably would have gone for a quiet actively cooled card like the 8800GTS.

EDIT: I had been running my case with the sides open, my temps drastically decreased when I put the sides on. Highest temp my GPU has recorded now is 78C.

I have the XFX 7950GT Extreme and so far its excellent. I've only played CSS on it so far, since theres no good games out the last couple of weeks.

I'm just nervous about whether the scythe ninja and thermalrite hr-05-sli i ordered yesterday will fit with the xfx on my DFI Ultra-D :?

Would it be out of line for me to mention that I am selling mine here in this thread?

It'll be very tight... I have a 7900GTO, a ninja and a HR05-SLi on a nF4 Ultra-D and the only way it fits is with the HR05 pointing downwards, and for that i had to bend the heatpipes slightly. The space between the Ninja and the GPU is 2,3cm or just under an inch.

DO NOT BUY THIS CARD! It gets so hot in 2142 that it starts getting weird textures and crashes. It gets up to 60 C which is way too hot. My Antec 900 case can't keep it cool. My cpu can sit idle adn the temp rises on this thing. I moved a fan to be right on it and took off the cooler and cleaned it and reapplied better paste which helped some but still burns up i will repeat DO NOT BUY THIS PLEASE

That's weird, I have not had any problems with my passively cooled 7950gt. And I have a P150 case, the 900 should have great airflow. But is the 60 C idle temp or load?

60C idle is pretty bad IMO. Just a reminder about the load temps: they drop quickly after exiting a game / 3DMark, about 10-15C drop till you can check them in the Control Panel.
