PCI slot fan mounting

Post by ceraf » Wed Feb 14, 2007 9:02 pm

Anyone have ideas of mounting an 80mm (or larger) fan using a pci slot? I've decided to go for the ghetto-but-practical way of cooling my video card heatsink.

thanks, that was pretty cool.

although that wasn't quite what i was looking for. I'd like to find ways to mount a fan using the pci slot, or unless there's a more convenient way.

Even though I have seen pictures of the PCI slot cover mod on quite a lot of sites before, I did not manage to find a single pic of it through Google, so instead I'll just quote Rusty:

I'm thinking of a pci slot cover design, but I can't think of a way to change the orientation of the fan. Also, fan vibration is another concern.

To get some inspiration, check this article. And in this thread there are some photos, like this and this one for instance. However, as you wrote, fan vibration might be a problem.

thanks! that was exactly what i was looking for. i think i'll look into trying to dampen the vibration or find some way to provide more structural support.

time to whip out my leftover zipties...
