CPU cooler for SilverStone Milo ML01

I'm planning a HTPC purchase.

So far I've decided to go for the following hardware:

Case: SilverStone Milo ML01 (http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-ml01.htm)
MB: Abit Fatal1ty F-I90HD (http://www.abit.com.tw/page/uk/motherbo ... YPE=LGA775)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4300

The case is only 98mm tall, so the CPU-cooler has to be a low profile. I'm hoping to end with a CPU cooling sollution that the MB/Bios/some software automatically can control. The motherboard is equiped with a 4 pin cpu-cooler power connector, so I'm thinking of getting a solution with a PWM fan.

The problem is... what CPU cooler (+ fan) should I go for?

Those 98mm are a real challenge, among aftermarket solutions, I mean there's almost nothing if you aim at renowned "silent" solutions: the lowest one I know it's the Thermalright MST9775 Limited Edition, which tops (with fan) at 96mm, so I don't think there's enough clearance to work in your case of choice.

I mean you have to go for some 1U (rack) heatsinks, but they are usually a bit hard to find, and very often aimed to fir Xeon sockets.

Hi,

You can use a zalman vf900 and som artic silver thermal glue, I have used it in a hiper slim media case on an amd x2 3800+ 65w TDP cpu with great success. Howvere due to the fact that you glue it on it will be a permanent installation

It looks to me as though the fan may be a little loud for your requirements (although it is PWM) but I assume you could always swap this for a different fan. I'm assuming that a standard 92mm fan could be fitted in the mounting.

The height of the heatsink itself seems to be low-enough profile for your case which is the main factor.

It's 95mm, it's as tall as the TRMST9775LE (fanned): if those 98mm are the overall height of the Milo case, I'm afraid it couldn't be short enough to fit in.

Titan's TTC-NK54TZ would fit. Its height with fan is 39 mm. But it would definately require fan change. That 80x80x10 mm fan cannot be quiet. Dual-heatpipes should provide pretty good cooling power.

Sure, I was mistaken about the dimensions. Sorry.

Well, if the Akasa should fit, there would be true even for other similar coolers (among them, I'd point out the stock Intel C2D cooler or even the Apack Zerotherm CF series): according to the same FrostyTech, the AK961 doesn't seem to be such a "quiet" cooler, so it might deserve at least a fan swap (a 92mm Nexus or Noctua, if they'd fit, or even an Akasa Amber series).
