Cheapy CPU Cooler

Post by warriorpoet » Mon Mar 12, 2007 4:48 pm

I need an efficient, quiet CPU cooler for a customer build (for x2 3800+ 65w).

Contestants:
1. Zalman CNPS 7700 AlCu
2. Scythe Mine
3. Thermaltake Mini Typhoon

I've been out of air cooling for over a year now, so any help is appreciated. Thanks :)

note: The rest of the rig is passive, so down or out blowing fans are best.

Depends if you have any height restrictions?

If no height restrictions, spring for the Ninja.

If you do, Zalman is coming out with the CNPS7500 [and since you said X2 3800+, I assume that's the AM2 version] which fits on AM2.

Heh, Ninja. I said cheap :)

Yep, it's AM2, low wattage version. I'm in the South and will not build a PC without a fan for good reason ;)

I know it's not on your list, but if you want to go real cheap, the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro is a good choice. I've got the same processor and I'm very happy with mine. Just don't run it at full speed.
