Corsair HX520 fits my bill?

I'm planning to build a new C2D rig next month. But before that, I really want to switch out my current PSU since it's way too loud. Then when I decide on my rig I can just use the new PSU again. So I'm looking for a PSU that's compatible with both my current and new rig.

I'm currently running a non-overclocked s754 Athlon64, with the old 20-pin and 4-pin ATX12V power connectors (no PCI-E). The motherboard is an Asus K8N-E Deluxe. I'm still using the old Truepower 480W (which aren't particularly efficient units) and it runs fine, so I'm sure a 520W would be enough. But does this PSU have the connectors/adapters for that?

I haven't decided exactly my new rig yet, but it will mostly be something like:
-P5W DH, P5B, DS3, or 680i for the mobo, any one of those (?)
-E6600
-2 gig RAM
-most likely a 8800GTS 320MB, only 1
-3 to 4 SATA hard drives
-other little things like sound card, optical drives, fans, etc
I might do overclocking a bit, but not extreme since I do need to keep the temperatures down for a quiet rig. Is this PSU more than enough for those specs?

More than enough. 'nuff said

You'll never use all that capacity, though that's a pretty good size for futureproofing and for making sure that it's not running at full capacity. The closer it is to running at full capacity, the more likely it is to speed up and be more noisy.

I love my Seasonic, but that PS has been getting great reviews, too.

It will be a very nice PSU. I think it is abit pricey though and that their marketing is very good. I mean who needs their modular cables to come in a nice pouch? A plastic bag would be good enough for me

Corsair HX 520 will pull two such rigs, all right. Seriously.
In my place Corsair is only 20% more expensive than S12 430, so with its modular cables and enough oomph to power a gaming rig with a C2D and 8800GTS/GTX SLI, it's a great deal. Not to mention it's whisper quiet. So yeah, it's overkill, but apart from that it has no weak points. Always a good buy.

Yep... that's only a mild exaggeration at worst, best-case it's probably true.

yeah, a 8800gts 320mb is the best performance per watt out there. the rest of board components take up a small amount of wattage compared.

430 could run that system but would get noisy and hot.

I just retiered my old, trusty Antec True Blue 485 W for the Corsair HX 520W.

And I must say I'm impressed! The True Blue was silent. But the HX is silent - silent lol. My Noctua fans on 850 rpm are louder.

And with the Antec, I had 11.88V on the + 12V rail with a Gainward Golden Sample 7950GT. But now I have 12.11V rock stable on the +12V. The other rails are just as stable. My other hardware: E6400@ 2.4 Ghz, 2 gig of RAM, 2 hdd's, 1 x DVD combo and 2 Noctua 120mm fans. Mobo: Asus P5B De Luxe. I have a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card.

It's also very nice to just have 1 x 4 pin molex cable, 1 x PCI E, 1 x Sata power cable and the mobo power cables in the P 180 case. Instead of the spaghetti mess of cables I had with the Antec non modular psu.

So I can heartly recommend the Corsair 520W.

I have a rig very similar to your, running happily on a Corsair 520, which I would heartily recommend, however the same rig was running very happily on a Tagan 420W supply too, only reason for the switch is that I'm building another PC and need the Tagan elsewhere.

I just bought an HX620 because I plan to get an 8800GTX eventually. Zipzoomfly has the best list prices on both 520 and 620 among reputable sites at the moment, AND free shipping AND a $20 rebate. So I got the 620 for about $125, I believe. Totally great PSU.
