p180b: fan choice

Post by matva » Sun Jul 29, 2007 3:35 pm

heres what im thinking
3x Noctua NF-S12-800 (1 for rear, 1 for top, 1 for upper intake)
1x s-flex SFF21E (1200rpm for ultra-120 extreme)

this is for a planned quadcore build early next year. i will be running a topend video card and plan to OC as much as i can.

is the 1200rpm S-FLEX overkill? I know that i want to be able to OC as much as possible, but i also want to balance that with quietness.

i will be using my mobo to control fan speed.

also i plan on running my hdd externally in an antec mx-1.

the quality of that S-flex is relatively random...sometimes you get a good one, other times yours will tick...

i would just get a yate loon, as it is a faster version of the nexus

and yes, the YL will cool a quadcore w/ that ultra120

if you plan on controlling your fan speeds, i would just get YL's on all the fans since at 7v it's dead silent, and then you can increase the fan speed if you need it.

YL's are also dirt cheap, the noctua's are what, $12-15? for that price, you can get 3-4 YL's...
