Hey,

thanks, but are you sure? other have told me that i need 500-550 W minimum. also, what can go wrong if i use a power supply that isn't powerful enough? would anything be damaged or would the system just refuse to run?

Most peoples take manufacturers overshot recomendations as fact. 430W seasonic is more than enough. We have a person in SPCR that runs X1950-series card with Pico PSU...

thanks. i'm still a little iffy tho because the video card is supposed to take up a lot of power.

does anyone know what happens if you try to run a computer with a power supply that doesn't provide enough power?

your cumputer just powers down middle of the game or crashes. But if it draws too much. PSU will shut down itself. All decent PSU have overvoltage and etc protections. Your seasonic will definately have such protection.

check it out, guy running very similar rig (E6600/8800GTX) on a 380W PSU:

your system probably will draw 250W max.

I used to run a E6600, 8800GTS, a pair of Raptors and an optical drive on a Tagan sub 400W (I think it was a 380, but I can't quite remember) and it was all good. I only swapped the Tagan for a 520W Corsair because I needed the Tagan for something else.

A good advice would be to pull out the psu when youre building the new pc, and then open and vacuum it...

woo! that's me, or it was, I swapped it back for my 400W Zen. The Pico worked fine in the system, but I HAD to undervolt the cpu, hopefully 45nm will let me move back to it.

that blog about the Q6600 and GTX was really amazing. I never thought that the power supply thing was such overkill.

Btw, system looks nice, although that case is not really my cup of tea.
