MY SILENT HTPC - ANTEC NSK2400

Post by udi13 » Wed Nov 28, 2007 1:26 pm

Hello every one, after a month of installation modding and temp checking
I finally finish my HTPC  :

Antec NSK 2400 (380 PSU fan swap to Nexus 80mm Fan SP802512L-03
Gigabyte Motherboard GA-MA69GM-S2H
AMD Athlon Dual-Core +4400 (65w / 65nm)
HDD WD SATA 250GB AAKS
HDD WD IDE Notebook 60GB
Scythe Mini Ninja CPU Heatsink Fanless
Zalman ZM-NBF47 Fanless Northbridge Cooler
2 X Scythe S-Flex 1200 RPM
Zalman ZM-MFC2 (Fix the view angle problem)
Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 MCE
Lite-ON SATA DVD RW X 20 LH-20A1S

Here is some number:

CPU:
Idle 35c – 37c (31c - 32c with Cool & Quiet )
Load 47c – 50c
Fans set to 780 rpm
Scythe Mini Ninja CPU Heatsink Fanless

PSU (after fan swap - Nexus 80mm Fan SP802512L-03) in idle mode:
Fan set to 1000 rpm
Exhaust temp 29c – 30c
Heatsink 35c – 37c
The fan swap take me no more than 15 mints

Northbridge (after heatsink change - Zalman ZM-NBF47)
Heatsink temp is 42c – 44c (66c – 68c with the original heatsink)

The 2 HDD was suspended horizontal and not vertical,
With elastic clothes-type material, it is not the nicest suspnded,
But the result was fantastic!!!

I will late the picture talk………

Nice build. The Liteon DVD looks like a pretty good colour match in the photos, although they can sometimes be misleading. Is it a pretty good match in real life too?

Pity the only way to view the Zalman display is by putting it at that strange angle though.

Nice setup! I'm considering the same heatsinks, motherboard, and case. I like your solution to help cool down the NB. Did you need to modify the inside of the case to allow easier access to the SATA (see http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthre ... 348&page=6 ) ports?

Hi PCMonkey
I did open a small hole opposite to the Sata connections,
You can use a 90 angle sata cable (it will still will be very hard to connects them), but than you will need to give up 2 of the Sata connections

Very similar to the HTPC I just built. I find it interesting that you retained the stock tricools but did a fan swap on the power supply. The power supply according to my ears is quieter than the tricools at low. I'm going to have to rework my HTPC to be quieter, it's definately audible at 2am.

Thanks, I guess my reading comprehension isn't very good. I was actually contemplating 2x scythe slipstream 800rpm ones myself.

I think the 1200 rpm will give you more flexibility...

Another question for you, did you ever try the stock mounting solution for the hard drives? I found it to be a little annoying at first, but it seems to do the trick as far as vibrations go... but maybe not?

Looks like your system is really quiet, I'm jealous. But hopefully soon mine will be configured like it.

Hi djkest
I try it in the first place, but the vibrations was to much for me.
My HTPC is quiet, and i wish your HTPC will be quiet too :D
