The motion graphics computer

Post by Mudbum » Sat Apr 19, 2008 6:55 am

Perfect little forum guys, loads of knowledge!
and it has my favorite attribute, silence.

So I have some cash I somehow fell into, and I need a computer to upgrade this weak 1stgen macbook pro.

I have obsessions so far after doing a good amount of research.

- Quad core is pretty sexy, and I want it.
- I don't care for loads of space
so if that reduced hard drive noise then I will go with that.
-Guess the usual 8 gb collection of ram
-I need 2 dvi ports for my cintiq and monitor.
This can be the bare minimum card with 2 slots, since I don't play video games and only use zbrush here and there when I need it. This may be my weak point which I can guess from other threads. Sucks.
- Motherboards are a strange business I do not get completely, but if more expensive ones mean huge jumps in adobe workflow then I will not eat for a while.
-Cases and fans I guess all depend on the CPU and MB. Mainly fitting and overlapping confuse me and what goes with what well.

Being a lurker is usual for me, but I posted here because I got a good vibe. I post because Non-Gaming setups are scattered here and there with little input.
Please help me?

OK I will be honest.
I want to find someone with similar goals as mine that has already built the thing. All he has to do his post his specs (that feels it is absent of any large downfalls) and I will just search for them and buy them.

If that is to weird and out of order then I will just have to spend my time on the lone track. Which would be wasting hours I could be making money, instead of finding ways to save money.

Please give me a ring. It is sort of a selfish shortcut but I will thank you royally. And it is good karma, which I will chant for you in a magic circle.

Do you need 8GB of RAM? What do you use it for?
As for motherboard, a mid ranged one with all the connectors you need will do, the expensive ones are only really useful for very specific needs and big overclockers.
The new intel 45nm CPU's are certainly good (Q9XXX series). Better performance and lower power (=easier to cool) make them ideal.
