Which PSU? (450w BeQuiet or 550w Xclio Greatpower)

Hi all,

I'm looking to replace my Antec Smartpower 2.0 450W PSU with a new modular (the inside of my case looks like a tip and some of the cables aren't long enough).

The 2 PSU's which come in at my price range, are modular, can power my system and have good reviews are;
*Be Quiet Dark Power (450W)
*Xclio Greatpower (550W)

I've read SPCR's review on the 430w version of the bequiet and it all looks good. Although the 450w version does seem to be a almost complete revamp (smarter looking modularisation, more 12v rails, ect).
And the Xclio Greatpower series haven't been review on SPCR neither.

Which one would you guys (and girls) choose?

Otherwise, do you happen to read the recommended list? PSU's one of course? You should... srly.

Yes I read the list and as I stated in my original post;

I'm a tad concerned the newer version make not be a quiet as the original 430 w version

Also as I said in the same post SPCR has not reviewed any of the Xclio Greatpower. Plus none of the reviews I could find stated any noise levels, only saying its quieter then most.

The Bequiet is on the today only for Â£56.99.
And the Xclio retails at a similar price.

The corsair on you linked (which I would buy if I wanted to spend the Â£10 more) just costs that bit more. I'm limiting myself to Â£60 as I've just brought myself a new/replacement motherboard.

Ok here my full specs,
Case: Antec Sonata II
CPU: AMD X2 3800+
Motherboard: Asus M2R32-MVP
Ram: 2gb (1gb x 2) specs not needed
HDD: Seagate SATA 7200.9 (it think its .9) 160gb
GPU: X1950Pro

Coolers + relivant addons
Scythe Ninja Plus Rev B (with the 'stock' 120mm fan)
Akasa 120mm fan (@ ~ 800rpm)
Akasa Fan controller
Arctic Cooling X2 Accelero

It was a fairly noisey system until I added the Ninja and the Accelero.
The other 120mm fan was added to reduce the temps and as it was a tad noisey I added the fan controller to mute it out.

Not the most silent of builds but I still don't want to add any extra noise to the system (why I'm asking here).
I'm thinking of upgrading my system (another HDD or 2, a X2 5000+ black edition or x4, maybe another x1950pro) and is another reason I want to upgrade the psu.

I apologise for the extremely late reply as well as for a reply perhaps not being the most helpful oneâ€¦(I didn't pay good attention enough Initially in this thread Iâ€™m afraid)

Since you are on a budget and can not afford (or perhaps more accurately) donâ€™t want to spend that extra cash on a Corsair unit, I would suggest (out of those two youâ€™ve been looking at) to go with the Bquiet. I should point out that I know nothing about the Xclio unit but I stick my neck out nevertheless by saying (albeit an assumption) that the Bquiet unit is the better one, both viewed to quality and noise, you could always do a fan swap at a later date should you not be satisfied and control it thru your fan controllerâ€¦

Power wise youâ€™ll be just fine with the Bquiet, however; since you are planning on adding a second graphics card I would have to suggest a 520W unit. Itâ€™s always good to have some extra power both as to risk not red lining your power supply and also to keep the fan spinning at a lower rpm (stock that is, this you can control with a fan swap), but since you were asking about the Bquiet and the Xclio and which to go for Iâ€™m just going of tangent here adding nothing to answering your question nor helping you out, so Iâ€™ll leave it at that.
