First 80plus Gold PSU!

Of course it's only reference design from nxp again at only 250w, but still a great sign. I wonder if we'll have a retail gold within a year. I'd love to see an 80plus gold at around 300-350w.

I rekon we'll be waiting until late next year before a commercially available (and realistically affordable) gold rated PSU hits the shelves. The enermax mod82 is still pretty much the high mark and its only a bronze. I dont think we'll suddenly be jumping up to gold standard unless a whole new tech comes along that revolutionises the industry.

Also if you notice, I'm the second post in that thread

That's a single voltage psu. Useless for most of us using standard computers. Not that this is more useful. It's just a prototype to sell components, but it's sign of the near future.

What's strange about this PSU is that the maximum efficiency is at 20%, and presumably is higher under 20% of nominal power. Similar efficiency graphs are present at Dell F255E-00 and H255E-00 . Maybe is a new technology, similar with digital PWM on some mainboards.
I want a photo with internals.....

The first drawback i see is that for who want maximum efficiency, will want to operate near 20%, compared with 50% for regular PSUs. Higher power rating on the PSU will result in higher price. Combined with the fact that is a 80+gold, the price will be insane

And since its only a 250w supply, you'll be wanting to run this on a mobile platofrm really to benefit from 90% efficiency.
