Scythe Ninja fanless VGA Cooler

Post by jOcKeL » Tue Mar 03, 2009 2:12 pm

CeBIT: Scythe shows a Ninja fanless VGA Cooler. It should be still available in this year. I held it in my hands today - it is very big and should perform better than the Accelero S1.

I dunno... that looks pretty silly and very expensive. One advantage of the S1 is that it's dirt cheap.

Scythe is like Bose, they are most impressed with themselves.

Look at all those bent fins! Regardless of price, it looks cheap.

That cooler isnt even pre-production, its proof of concept.

when it gets released it wont look like that, and hopefully will add something to the marketplace (ideally good performance at a sensible price.

Personally, I would have been more interested if it has it's main cooler is at the backside of the card to take advantage of the case airflow.

I'll wait and see how it fairs compared to the AC S1 and the HR-03. What worries me most is the VRAM cooling. It doesn't look like it has any ram heatsinks.

Do you think the two products can fit together when the graphics card is in the top PCI express slot? It doesn't look like it would from the last screenshot posted.

They had 1 good cpu cooler at one time, and ever since they went to the push pins that 1 cpu cooler isnt even "good".

They have good fans, but their fans arnt made by them. They are just rebadged from an OEM for retail use.

So no scythe really doesnt "make" anything of quality. They had an opportunity to at one time, but that window has long been gone.

So your definition of "good" is industry leading? Just because something might cool a CPU an extra 2c doesnt mean its suddenly bad, especially since both coolers are well below what would be considered dangerous temps.

Yes that would be the definition of good.

Being one of the pack = average = mediocre.

Who does make good stuff themselves that is of interest to the silent PC industry, and advertised and marketed as such.???

Arctic Cooling.

Samsung.

Western Digital.

Thermalright.

Seasonic.

I cant think of anyone else, they either are not made themselves, or are not advertised (Yate Loon for example).

I've had better results with Scythe than I have with any other brand... I got rid of a TRUE for a Ninja2 and I'm happier with the Scythe.

As for the Ninja VGA cooler... DAMN it's huge. I've been perfectly happy with my AC S1, but that smaller Setsu cooler looks promising.
