I think it's an F2 Eco Green, not F3. It looks like it has the same specs as HD502HI (5400 rpm, 16 MB cache) and replaces it (I can't find HD502HI in the offer any more).

It's not in the products section on Samsung's site, but it does appear in the Global Download Center section.

I don't know about "worldwide" availability, as it seems it can be found only in Poland and Romania - I just hope it's not a CEE market product.

the only difference which I found is average latency HD502HI has 5,56ms and HD503HI 5,52ms.
It's not big deal, but it mean that they performed some changes (who knows what else) ....

No, I finally bought HD502HJ (regular F3)

It is mounted in my main PC, so 7200rpm is very usefull.
I hear head only under heavy load. It is quite enough for me.

cheers

Not bad, isn't it?
Cool, cheap and low power, the best deal for storing data.

I'm waiting for the 1TB F3 from Newegg ($79), and will be mouting on a NoVibes III I picked up for $10.

The thing goes OOS as soon as its listed! :(

So, the 1TB version should have the same noise profile as the 500Gb version right? Yes, it will be a bit louder, but more/less the same right?

The F3 EG 500GB seems great. :) This brings a positive dilemma: What to choose (when two are available)?

F2 EG HD502HI that has proven low noise and vibration by SPCR?
or
F3 EG HD503HI that supposedly/according to some benchmarks is a little bit quicker - but as super quiet as F2 EG?

Any recommendations/thoughts on this are very welcome as I need to buy a whole batch of one of them.

Mine HD503HI is very quiet, stay cool and low on vibration. Virtually no vibration when bare mounted on desk, too. When mounted with silicon screws in a P150/solo i can't hear any seek, my caviar GP 640GB had more seek noise. But i feel the caviar more quicker, i don't undestand why. Anyway, a great drive for any SPCR-boy :)

Thanks for positive feedback, MarcoM. F3 EG sounds like the drive for me then. :D

You write F3 EG seems a little slower than WD Cav GP. The F3 EG is still alright for desktop use, would you say?

Noise and vibration are clearly my priorities above speed - still, I don't want cribbled desktops. Thanks again.

Vibration is very low, i think it's possible to hard mount it.

It seems to me a little bit slow compared to 320GB/platter GP, but i'm using it anyway for gaming. Maybe it's subjective. After all, performance is not a big issue, games map loading is the same of the GP.

I think it's ok for desktop use, no regrets for me

Definitely more quiet than predecessor (link below contains measurements in the idle and seek modes, comparison with twelve other HDDs):

(if you're interested in more than graphs of noise, pls use google translate Czech to English)

Does this drive (F3 Eco HD503HI) has some of Samsung's F2s strange noises at start up (loud clicks a few times)?

The start-up clicks of the F2 are described below (by a user from this forum):

"Samsung EcoGreen - i'm unsure if they fixed it in F3, but my F2 1,5TB (HD154UI) has a terrible start sound. My drive is OK, but they use the staged start feature, which means the drive usually make 3-6 "clicks" before it really starts. It's not extremly noisy, but you can hear the drive at the start."
