180mm fans -- Where to get them?

Post by Ikonomi » Sun Mar 22, 2009 10:26 am

Hi, everybody. I've been following SPCR since Panaflo L1As were all the rage (I still use mine!), but this is my first time posting here.

I'm planning to modify my case with a couple large fans -- one on the side window for intake, and one on the top for exhaust. The largest I can squeeze into the frame is 180mm, but I'm having a heck of a time finding them. So far I've only found one at Newegg, an Xclio that comes with multicolored LEDs (don't really need that) and its own pot controller (useful).

I've searched lots of places, but this is the only 180mm I've found. I'm just not sure about it. I know it's an odd size, but I'm hoping they're out there somewhere.

Has anyone had success finding this fan size? I'd hate to settle for a 140mm, and 250mm is too large to fit the roof of the case.

I tried to post a link to the fan on Newegg, but as it's my first post I can't.

There is nothing that makes 180mm any more standard than any other large size. It's not a normal computer fan size so forget getting them from computer shops. You need to use an electronics component specialist. Not sure if the US has anything like RS Components but that's the kind of thing you need. Just expect to get a 24 or 48V and massively undervolt!

Hi,

Perhaps you could shoot SilverSTone a mail asking them if it would be possible for you to buy one from them?, their Fortress case uses 180mm fans and even though I haven’t seen any 180mm replacement fans available at their site it could still be worth a try.

...and Welcome to SPCR

Hi, thanks for the advice and the warm welcome. I do have an electronics parts supplier around here, whom I'm going to visit tomorrow. They're closed on weekends. I have found a couple 170mm fans, but they're too deep to fit in the case. I hoped I could find 180s based on the Xclio model.

Thanks for the hint about SilverStone, that's worth a shot. If they can supply those fans to customers that would be perfect! I've also looked at the Antec Big Boy 200mm, the same one on the Nine Hundred and Twelve Hundred. I notice it has its own enclosure, though. I think it might be slightly too large to fit in the space I have.

newegg dot com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835234004 is the 180mm Xclio, if anyone has had experience with those. I've never tried one.

antec dot com/Believe_it/product.php?id=NzY= is the 200mm Big Boy. If I can get that to fit, it might work perfectly.

Hi,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835234004

Xclio 180mm fans.

Flashy lights and rediculously overpriced, of course, but they are there if yoiu want them.

Now, if anybody can tell me who actually makes them for Xclio... because if I could get them made in more robust material and without the lights at a sensible price, I could use 100 or so of them.
