best add-on controllers

Post by shunx » Tue Oct 20, 2009 2:12 pm

For those of you who like to add lots of hard drives to a server, say 7+, what controller do you use?

One cost effective model I know of is SUPERMICRO AOC-SAT2-MV8 which supports 8 SATA ports but it's PCI-X, which works in PCI but slower that way. Anyone knows similar controllers with many ports for PCI-E?

This should do what you want: http://supermicro.com/products/accessor ... LP-MV8.cfm :)

I have one here (not installed yet!), but I chose it after seeing lots of good reviews on avsforum.com

thanks I think that's a good idea. Do you know if that model comes with the SAS to SATA cables needed?

I got those: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.18023

It's the cheapest I found them, took about two weeks to get to Montreal from Hong Kong.

Once again I didn't try them yet, so I don't know if they're any good.
