How much is a cable modem

Post by ebastancy » Sun Dec 20, 2009 11:29 pm

How much is a cable modem monthly when you get your internet hooked up from the cable company? I was just wondering how much a cable modem would be monthly if bought from the cable company. Just wanted to know a ballpark figure for it monthly.

In the UK the modem is usually 'free' with the contract. IIRC there is an £80 charge if you lose it or fail to return it at the end of the contract.

Again, IIRC, they have an embedded MAC address so swapping the modem is non-trivial as you need the cable company to play ball as well.

My cable internet fee is £10 monthly (10Gb unlimited usage with fair use policy) - well actually £18 but together with the 'free' modem I also get a phone line with 'free' weekend calls which in UK terms is worth about £8/month.

BTW - Welcome to SPCR

I know Comcast in the US charges $5 a month to lease their modem. It's of course a better deal to go buy one for $30 or so.
