S1283 for i5/i7

Post by dragonfire » Mon Nov 30, 2009 7:44 am

Hi all,

I'm getting ready to rebuild my rig around an i7-860. I had a fantastic experience with a Xigmatek S1283 for my Q9450. Cheaper than many alternatives, and great silent cooling with the included fan. I was excited to see a new mounting bracket allowing the S1283 to be used with Socket 1156.

Curious to see if anyone has tried using a Xigmatek heatsink for a Socket 1156 CPU yet. Any comments are valuable.

Thanks,
--Jonathan

I used an S1283 and the new ACK mounting kit for my i5-750 build earlier this month and it worked great. The back plate confused me a little at first but that was the only problem I encountered during installation. At the very least it's a nice alternative to the push-pin system the cooler comes with as standard.

What are your temps like at idle and at load?

My current Q9450 runs at 45C at full load. I'd be loathe to upgrade if I can't keep the i7-860 similarly cool.
