4850 Cooling?

Hi,

I have an ati 4850 right now in my pc. And wow it is loud! Now I am looking for the best way to remove the noise from the card. I have decided to go for the aftermarket cooler route. What is recommended to get?

I know people have recommended the Accelero S1, which certainly looks the part. Though someone else recommended this cooler.

Would that be better as it will promote more airflow through my pc?

Accelero is surefire. My HD 4850 runs low 30's in idle with Accelero S1 and 120mm 800rpm scythe ziptied.

Akasas weakneses are: clear plastic, integrated fan that cannot be changed, small diameter blower fan is usually high toanlity and not smooth, especially with clear plastic.

I'll second the Accelero S1 rev2. I have that on my 4850 running passive. It's great. Low temps and no sound

I'd like to suggest the Accelero L2 Pro, which is significantly smaller, lighter, and cheaper than the big brother. Oh, and it comes with an extremely quiet fan. [edit] And includes VRMs [/edit]
I know it can easily cool the 4850 with stock clocks, don't know about overclocking, though. If you are into that kind of thing, you need to do some research.

Hi, which ever way you go I suggest making sure the VRMs are well cooled. Maybe not as critical with 4850 as 4870/4890 but still worth doing.
Zalman make a heatsink specifically for it. You could also make your own from RAM sinks etc or the heatsink you buy may come with some anyway.

I have much experience with 4850 coolers and I have one recommendation:

Akas Neo Vortexx. Also pickup the ZEROtherm ZH100 kit to cool the vregs n such. I did this for my HD 4850's and they ran oh so silently afterwards while exhausting all that nasty hot air out the case

Also it allowed me to vmod/OC the hell out of them

Same here, mu 4850 ran passive just fine with the Accelero S1.

Well I got the Vortexx Neo and its fitted. It isn't bad at all, shame it wasn't the reference cooler! I picked up a heatsink made for IC's from an electronics shop for Â£0.72, much cheaper than buying specific heatsinks.
