Megahalems + Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3, will it match?

Post by Mikae1 » Thu Apr 22, 2010 1:42 pm

I read that someone had trouble mounting the thing on a GA-EP45T-Extreme board. The screws were apparently too long and the person had to put paperboard between the backplate and the mobo to make it work.

Has anybody tried the Megahalems with any of the P55 Gigabyte mobos? Did you have this problem?

And, I'm thinking about going fanless with the CPU. i5-750, no overclocking. Fractal Design Define R2 case.
Bad idea?

I've used Megahalems on P55m-UD2 and P55m-UD4. No problems with either.

You have just to test.

Just fyi an aussie silencer currently goes with a Megahalem, i7-860, P180: he got 60°C while gaming, 90°C while testing.

That case design looks similar to the P180 so it should work. I would keep the top vent open/uninhabited and align the heatsink so that it faces that side. That way cool air will flow down onto the heatsink by convection and one fan at the back will exhaust heat out of the case. This is how I set up mine (albeit in a P180).

Cheers!

sry to hijack this topic, but you know what would be great?
if there was a compiled list of some kind of cpu cooler vs motherboard to say whether it fits or has issues
could also have cpu cooler vs ram as well
and probably throw in cases while we're at it

i might have a look into this if i've got time
i'm sure going over a bunch of the topics in here would come up with a decent-ish list

Not a bad idea at all.

I'll give it a go. The product info page at the shop says "Socket 1156 N/A". Could be an older revision without support for mounting with an i5.

No trouble with clearance for RAM? Saw a review that mentioned this. Went ahead and ordered though. So we'll see.

No problem clearing ram, but I don't use ram with tall ramsink.
