Power Brick Question

Post by zodaex » Thu May 06, 2010 2:33 pm

Hi, i'm looking to get a D945GSEJT motherboard and it takes one of those power bricks. Can I just use the one that came with my asus eee netbook? How do I know which power bricks will work with the D945GSEJT and which ones are the most efficient? Thank you for the help, this forum is the best.

Oh Noes! I got my seasonic power brick today, and it seems to be missing a connector I need. Here's the pic of my board: http://www.silentpcreview.com/files/ima ... sejt17.jpg
See the 4 pin cpu pwr connector right under #9? My power brick dosen't have a cable to plug into this. What do I do? Did I get the wrong brick after all?

That one is the "Alternate" powering method, no ?

Not really sure. On other motherboards it's a required connector. I guess it probably wouldn't hurt to try it without and see what happens.

Damn, the PSU Brick I bought doesn't fit the motherboard due to different size connectors. It was the exact Model I linked to to in my 2nd post, the Seasonic SSA-0651-1. :( Well this sucks cause don't know how i'm supposed to find the right model and this was 30 bucks.

It should fit :

http://www.censuspc.com/Seasonic-SSA-06 ... 10254.html
Connector: 5.5x2.5mm Tip
Primary: Rear 12 V DC jack for 60 W external
power supply (12 V via 5.5mm/OD; GND
via 2.5mm/ID)
Maybe ask directly from Intel ?

the D945GSEJT (I have one) can work with any 12v power supplies you can find easily in ebay for less than 10 bucks.
For example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/AC-Adapter-Power-Su ... 414f72845a

the plug must be 5.5x2.5mm

I bought this exact item from this very page you linked and I can double confirm it won't fit. It's obvious to me just by looking at it. I guess I can eyeball those cheap ebay models for something with a good picture. I suppose there's no way to use a regular atx psu with this? I'll keep searching.

So is it possible to power off of a regular atx psu?

Yes, but your problem will be then "how to turn on this thing" - as you won't have the 24pin connected anywhere. And it is the 24-pin connector which is used to signal power on from motherboard to PSU.

I used to have this motherboard. Didn't bother finding a proper PSU so I just took the brick from an external HDD. 12V and 2A was plenty.
I had to cut the connector off and solder back another one that fits.

Has been working well without problems.

Ok I think I may have found the problem here. I've been asking about the Seasonic SSA-0651-1 like I was able to find on the manufacture's link I gave and like I bought on the censusPC page. Now that I have broken out my magnifying glass it looks like the one that Mike used was a Seasonic SSA-0601S-1. At this point though i've wasted so much money on this dumb project i'm considering just throwing it all on the bin and cutting my losses here. :( The dumb motherboard didn't even come with a manual.

I do not understand both AC adapters use the 5.5x2.5mm and also the motherboard so it should fit. Did you pushed hard enough? :)

I can tell there is no way for it to fit just by looking at it. I'll post a pic here of the back of the MB and PSU when I feel like messing with this catastrophe again.
