Can a ATI 5570 play starcraft 2 beta?
Im building a sff m-itx pc that i can take around with me. I think that is the best low bracket video card I can get. I was wondering if that will play starcraft 2 when it comes out. At least on 1024 resolution?

How much eye candy do you want? Legion Hardware has actually tested the HD 5570 with the Starcraft 2 Beta and even at 1680x1050 max quality (no AA, no AF), frame rates seem to be acceptable enough (albeit pretty low). If you turn down the resolution to 1024x768, I don't think you'll have any problems.yetidaddy wrote:Im building a sff m-itx pc that i can take around with me. I just remembered Tom's Hardware also did an article on this. By the looks of things, you won't have any problems as long as you don't turn up the settings to ultra. At medium details, it seems even 2560x1600 is no problem.
Curious, though, what CPU and motherboard are you planning on using? Oh, and what case?

Low profile, dual slot 5770: viewtopic.php?t=58942
I think that's as good a price as you'll see in the short term. By the way, have you given a thought as to what CPU HSF you'll be using? It's pretty hard to find a decent, aftermarket one that doesn't block the PCIe x16 slot.yetidaddy wrote:I'm looking for something that a pico-psu 150w can power. I don't think I have enough space for that 5770 either lol. Saw a HIS 5570 for $60 ar, should I get it?
i haven't done that project yet because it will turn out to be $400-$500. And small minor things like that HSF. Im using a S775 matx motherboard with that case. I hope I can find a cheap i3 motherboard with 9in x 7in dimensions. I forgot that mini-itx mb have a problem with the stock HSF, thanks for pointing it out.

Lol, if he sticks to 1024x768 resolution, he might actually be able to get away with ultra. And yeah, more CPU bound than GPU bound even at medium but the i3-530 ain't no slouch. Given that SC2 doesn't seem to take advantage of higher than dual-core, I don't foresee any problems in that area.phoenixrage wrote:just don't play on ultra settings..
from what i've read, SC2 is more CPU intensive vs the GPU.
As for the CPU HSF, I remember someone mentioning using the Scythe Shuriken (SCSK-1100) for their build. I'm currently using the Scythe Big Shuriken (SCBSK-1000) in mine but I'm considering swapping it out for the regular Shuriken so I could install a TV tuner card.
My C2D E4500 @ 3.3Ghz on Radeon HD 3850 256MB runs SC2 beta great, unless you play 2vs2 and do max armies with Protons carriers and there's a whole lot of stuff flying around. I don't think I've even looked at the graphics settings though, just that it runs on native resolution, who cares about the rest, it's an RTS.
Wouldn't HD 5570 be about the same as 3850? Maybe even a bit better. I have no clue actually.
