Western Digital 1TB SATA3 64M (WD1002FAEX)

Hi guys,

Any reviews experience with this drive?

I had a whiny Samsung F3 and the WD1001FALS replacement I ordered I have just been told (after waiting a week) is never going to be in stock because it has been replaced by this drive. However I have read a few people sayings its loud, and also people saying that turning on AAM makes it quiet?

Any advice please be very much appreciated.

Cheers,
Lik

I have mine mounted in my quiet build (in sign) with the P150 grommets-rails, and surprisingly this Caviar Black does not add to much noise. I think if u suspend it and activate AAM it will be relatively quiet.

Without AAM, the seeks are really loud, you can hear them from across the room. But when you activate AAM (at max), you barely hear them over the idle noise, which is not that high anyway. But suspending is a must (like with almost all hdds).

Sorry, my mistakes. Will update when drive is properly in place. I think my old case might be adding to the noise problems I am having. Also got the drive to boot.

So far agree with other comments about seek being like percolating coffee, is quite noisy. I haven't tried AAM as yet.
