uhh... AMD 1090T kicks asss... 'nuff said

Post by ~El~Jefe~ » Mon Sep 06, 2010 9:07 am

I was debating about a lot of things before I built my new machine.

I was choosing between AMD 965, 1090T and 1055. As well as Intel 930.

Now, yes, the 930 might be a bit higher performance. It also has a lot of wattage burn on load.

Now that all sort of bullshit has been said, go out and buy yourself a 6 processor system that goes above 3.0ghz and youll be happy.

Really REALLY happy. Holy crap.

Also, go get 8 gigs of ram. Don't worry about the speed so long as its 1333 DDR3, your fine.

Holy crap my machine roasts monkey anus.

Nice.

So what are the complete specs for your computer?
And what about power consumption?

I have no idea about power consumption yet.

I also need more connectors and a more robust fan control setup. that will be this weekend.

Specs:

AMD 1090T - 30C in a warm room!?? - Core Temp report
8 gigs OCZ 9-9-9-24, 1333 ram - cheap so why not more instead of faster
MSI 890GXM-65
1TB Samsung 7200 enterprise drive - smooth drive
760a Plextor DVD burner
Sony Blu-ray reader
Nightjar 450 silent psu
120mm Scythe medium speed regular depth on rear
120mm Nexus in front
Temporarily: SLK 3000 antec case - butt ugly
Scythe Grand Kama Cross

The scythe is ENORMOUS.

My unit didnt have the 4-way retainer system. It is held on am3 typical style, not that secure, not that insecure. I am looking to get those parts so I can secure it truly.

I have AC L2 Pro on the vga. I dont have it regulated yet, still need to figure that one out.

It should go to 4.0 GHz fairly easily.

Can't say I agree with "more slow RAM is better". Faster response time on RAM can be quite noticeable in many tasks.

Whats your VGA? I connected AC L2 fan to 5770 and it does rpm regulation by itself, stays pretty quiet.

the 1090t chip isn't all that efficient, but i'd really like to own one.

It's quiet but hot.

xfx 5770, original model. In ATI overdrive it shows 0 rpm even though its a 4 pin fan.

The card idles around 50 C and loads at like around 79 C. That's like as bad as stock, which was terrible. I dont know what I did wrong or what not so far.

Grand Kama Cross from Scythe... that plus 1090T is sick combo. Never goes above 40 doing most windows things... normally idle at 35 or less.

My case is choked a bit, I need to cut holes in side. It was set up for my old WC setup, which needed minimal air movement.
