140mm fans for radiator, need advice

Post by boxleitnerb » Tue Feb 15, 2011 11:34 pm

Hi!

I got a reasonably good deal for 9 noiseblocker black silent pro pk2. Mostly, I am content with them, but rather out of curiosity I would like to know if there is an even better choice.

What bugs me a little are 2 things:
One or two fans start at 4,5-5V. 9 start at 5,5-6,5V where I can begin to hear them. Voltage loss at the adapter cable? My fan controller has a turning knob. Just before they begin to spin as I crank up the voltage (from 0V upwards) they...screetch. My old Yate Loon D12SL-12 were completely silent, they just started when the voltage was high enough, but without a sound.

Second thing: There is a grinding/rattling sidetone (not the air movement itself). It is barely noticable at a distance of about 70cm, but one or two of the nine stand out a little.

Is there a 140mm fan out there that has a perfect bearing that makes no noise whatsoever?

Yate Loon make a 140mm fan as well - speed is 1,000rpm at 12V from memory.

I haven't used this fan so I can't comment on its noise characteristics.
