Quietest 80mm fan

Post by @TOMMY@ » Sun Jun 19, 2011 12:47 pm

Hi all, I spend a few hours researching this forum regarding the quietest 80mm fan, but found no definitive answer. I'm looking for the quietest fan that produces the lowest vibration regardless of price. CFM doesn't really matter.

Top contenders include Scythe, SilenX, Nexus, Noctua, etc.
I understand I shouldn't trust the dBA rating. Should I go with the lowest RPM one? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Yeah go for low RPM. 80mm fans usually don't give off any noticeable vibrations unless made with heavy duty ball bearings so the movement of the air is likely to be the main noise factor. It's not easy to find 80mm fans made to do less than 1500 RPM at standard voltage though, so at least a little regulation downwards is likely to be needed (more so if restrictive vents are involved). I'd try whatever inexpensive available fan that looks normal enough and isn't made of clear plastic.

Have you seen the SPCR recommended 80mm fans?

I also have had good luck with Enermax Enlobal 80mm fans.

Thanks for all the reply. The Recommended Fans page was the first place I looked, but it hasn't been updated for a few years now.

I'm leaning towards the Noctua 80mm with the ULNA to throttle the fan down to 800rpm.

Where is the Scythe 1000rpm model? I can't find it on their website.

When considering the fan speed that you want on an 80mm fan, take a look at this:
