Antec TruePower vs SmartPower

Post by SomeGuy15 » Sat Nov 15, 2003 3:45 pm

I'm about to buy the Antec SX-630II case which comes with a 300W SmartPower PSU but was wondering how much quieter the TruePower 330 PSU would be?

Is it really noticeable?

I haven't tried the SmartPower but I've got the 380W Truepower (single fan) PSU from the Antec case. It's not annoying but then again not particularly quiet either. If your PSU comes with 2x80mm fans then I guess its going to be noiser. Not the sort of PSU you'd want if you're aiming for a silent / ultra quiet PC. Nowhere near close to the PSUs on the recommended list.

Have a look at the reviews on here (and the recommended list). I think Mike has reviewed a few of the Antec PSUs and done noise measurements.

If you want a cheap(ish) quality quiet case out of the box, get the Aopen 600HB. The PSU is suprisingly quiet at idle (although not when it ramps up). Built well too.
