quiet cooling for i5(maybe OC a little)

Post by harpocratos » Fri Sep 02, 2011 9:36 am

Zalman CNPS10X Performa (1000-2000rpm)
Scythe Big Shuriken (SCBSK-1000) (650-1600rpm)
Scythe Shuriken Rev. B (SCSK-1100) (650-2200 rpm)
are they efficient enough and quiet?
?

I have that on an E5300, its pretty quiet.

I've had success with the XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 running passive in a P180 mini with just the 200mm fan on low on the E5200 as well

Neither of the Shurikens for an i5 with or without overclocking. Those four cores pump some heat at load after all and they are both low profile specials. Consider going upwards in size to coolers like Mugen 3 or "HR-02 Macho". Although the CNPS10X Performa is good enough and is after all a wee bit less expensive.

it's the fan, that generates noise
so i need fanless efficient cooling and then i can buy silent slow fan
what can you recomend me?
if i go with CNPS10X Flex what fan i should buy for it?
or should i go with Scythe Mugen 2 Rev. B
Mugen 3 is rare and costs more and i don't know if it performs much better than mugen2

and will current cooling be compatible with next 1-2 generations of cpu-mobo?

I've used Scythe PWM Slipstreams on a couple recent builds and am very happy with them. Controlled from either the BIOS or Speedfan, they slow down nicely (300ish rpm at idle), and are inaudible up to about 900 rpm. I'm using them with a Gelid Tranquillo in one box and a Coolermaster Hyper 212 in another.
