looking for a usb3.0 addon card

Post by xev » Mon Mar 25, 2013 12:59 pm

Would it matter what card i get? There are a few on newegg and amazon that have 4 ports and are around $15.
I figure they might not have the top usb3 speeds, but would be much better than transferring at 2.0.
And i have several external drives that would greatly benefit from this.
thanks

Probably obvious: For these kind of add-ons, I'd advise sorting by review ratings rather than price. Find one that has a couple dozen reviews and no obvious glaring issues. Better to spend $25-30 on one with decent reviews than $15 for one with few or poor reviews. They reviewers will state whether or not they get 3.0 type speeds. Let the market be your beta tester :)

on that note, when will amazon let you set preferences that stick every time to log and search!? for instance only show me items with 4 stars or better, or at least ban sub 3 star items from even appearing... its like amazons search is (intentionally) stuck in the 90's...

i got mine from eBay. Its like 13 bucks USD.

It has a NEC chip with 4 ports (two front, two rear).

Avoid the Etron chips.

I second TechoPride suggestion, i would go with a Nec based USB3 pci card or Asmedia also good.
