Scythe Big Shuriken 2 Rev.B or Noctua NH-L12

Post by nstarz » Wed May 15, 2013 9:17 am

Which one should I get?

Scythe Big Shuriken 2 Rev.B ($45.49) or Noctua NH-L12 ($70)

on a GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-D3H http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813128546

Probably going to have an i7-3770. Socket LGA 1155

My case is a p180 or p182. I have two Nexus 120mm PWM Fan D12SL-12 PWM.

I see from this thread: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=65934 the NH-L12 with i7-3770S at 60s is normal now. (I was hoping it would be cooler) than my current E8400.

lol, the Scythe Big Shuriken 2 Rev.B for $45 was out of stock.

I guess I get the Noctua NH-L12.

Ivy Bridge temps run hotter than many of the previous generations. The NH-L12 is nice. You could also get the Thermalright TRUE Spirit 120M and substitute in the Nexus fan for ~$50-55.
1080p Gaming build: i5-4670K, Mugen 4, Asrock Z97 Anniversary, MSI GTX 1660 Gaming X, 8GB 1866 RAM, Samsung 860 Evo 500GB, Crucial MX100 256GB, WD Red 2TB, Samsung DVD burner, Fractal Define R4, Antec True Quiet 140 (2 front + rear) case fans, Seasonic SSR-550FX. 35W idle, 45-55W video streaming, 170-200W WoW, 318W stress test (Prime95 + Furmark)

If you are going for a discrete video card, an Xeon e3-1230v2 could save enough money to pay for a nice heat sink upgrade.

If you need integrated graphics, an e3-1245v2 will still save a few bucks.

Thanks, I think I'll go that route. It is $44 at http://www.ebay.com/itm/Thermalright-TS ... 27d1acca92

Edit: $40 + tax = $43.49 @ superbiiz.com

@QUIET!, I am going to try to find a i7-3770 for $225 or less or so. Possibly used, but I'll see when Haswell come out if there is a selling spree for inventory or people who just upgrade. I was initially thinking the i5 3570, but it seems its all ~$200 anyways.

I got the HIS iSilence H775P1GD Radeon HD 7750 for GPU already.

Thanks for the info.
