Silent keyboards to buy in Scandinavia

Post by Kaleid » Sun Nov 17, 2013 8:56 am

Ok, so my Fractal Design Linear died a couple of days ago, and I need a replacement. I bought quite blindly a Logitech K290 which is advertised as quiet, but upon using it I discovered that that is not the case. Also, the keyboard doesn't as have the F1-12 keys enabled but other functions instead, so usability is not the greatest. So I want tips on what to buy. Preferably similar to laptops, meaning low keys, not mechanical gaming keyboards.

Anyone?

You could try an Apple keyboard, which I assume works with Windows.

Yes, that is an option, but the downside is that the buttons don't quite match with the PC enviroment.

Typing this on a Cherry eVolution Stream XT. Somewhat similar to the Logitech UltraX Flat version 1. Scissor-switch so it's pretty quiet.

I personally use Fujitsu KB900, but it is not as quiet as i would like to. Same applies for Keysonic KB8021U, which is pretty much PC version of Mac keyboard. Unfortunately Logitech UltraX is not made anymore, so that is out of the question...

Thanks for the tips. I'm gonna start out by trying the Cherry, if that doesn't work then I will go to the next two suggestions.

I'm having a similar dilemma. Living in a small town so there's not really any place to go to try keyboards. My current keyboard is a Logitech Classic 200, and I'm not happy with the sound (too loud) nor with the amount of force needed to press the keys. From what I've read, keyboards with the Cherry MX Red switches, Apples keyboards and the Logitech Washable K310 are supposed to be quiet. However, I've read the same about the keyboard I currently use, so I really don't know.
It would be great if SPCR started reviewing keyboards, even if the sound was the only thing dealt with. Personally I find the sound of typing, my own and especially others', tremendously tiring.

I don't think so: any mechanical keyboard cannot be really quiet by design.

It appears that Logitech keyboards are available in Scandinavia. If that is the case, try the Logitech Illuminated Ultrathin Keyboard (corded). It's even quieter than the UltraX. More features, higher price.

I'm still using the UltraX from 2004, but I'd like a new one. I think the Fujitsu KB900 could be a great replacement. Logitech have given up making flat keyboards that also works for gaming years ago, the Logitech Illuminated is one example, the K740 is another.

I think you would prefer the K280e, it works the other way. But I guess that won't help much if you don't like it because of the noise.
You may be able to change the settings with Setpoint.

I own it, Mats: nice and absolutely unobtrusive (but not silent), while tactile feel is a bit mediocre, IMHO.

MX switches can be made quieter with O-Ring dampeners- like this http://www.thekoolroom.com/product/max- ... s-110-pcs/.

This is an old topic but just wanted to write that the Cherry eVolution Stream XT is terrific. Much more sturdy than the ones I've had before, Logitech and Fractal Design.
