PH-F140XP vs PH-F140HP II

Post by Philbro » Tue Jul 07, 2015 4:55 pm

I have searched long and hard through the forums here and online and have not found a definitive answer. Is there any clear advantage to one of these fans over the other? I bought some PH-F140HP II's after reading about their stellar acoustics in an article on this website. I just want to make sure that I did not get an inferior product to the XP's before the return window is gone. Does anyone have any first hand experience with XP fans?

As far as I recall, SPCR didn't tested the specific PH-F140HP II in any article.

Said that, you can read some notes about the different PH-F140XP fan from our regular contributor Abula here, also quoted in another thread about those Phanteks fans, and that's all I ever read about it here.

Yeah, I saw that thread as well, but I am more concerned with the sound of the fans rather than the performance of them. Was hoping to find someone with first hand experience with both :( probably a long shot though.

Yes they did, back in 2013 I believe, although that was under the name PH-F140HP/TS. I contacted Phanteks themselves and they confirmed that it is the same fan, just with a PWM connector.

So it's basically untested: more than once happened that, within the same series, changing the control method actually changed the noise signature/outcome.

Hm, that's interesting. They seem to live up to the hype that I had for them, didn't know if the XP's could possibly be better. Do you have any recommendations for fans that I should use?

I don't understand your question: are you satisfied by them? Or do you need to "know" to own the best ones?

Anyway, among 140mm PWM fans with 120mm holes I'm used to the P14r Redux from Noctua, because I can dial them down to 180-190rpm at idle-low loads, but I don't know if that is what you're looking for, as a fan "useability" is an highly subjective matter.

Well the thing is that I absolutely love their tone or lack thereof but the 120mm mounting instead of 140mm made me have to kind of ghetto rig them in my case. I want to know if the XP is of the same or higher quality than the HP because then I could just mount them normally instead of how I have them now. Thanks for all your answers and help! :)
