RX580 Review Compilation Thread

AMD fixed some bugs and sped up the Polaris RX 4xx series at the expense of TDP. Upside is they fixed the memory-not-downclocking-for-2D-loads-and-multimonitor problem.

In brief: ~6-10% faster than RX 480. Great 1080p/ ok to decent 1440p, 180W TDP, but OEM stock OC'ed cards may use much more at stress loads. HDMI 2.0b and Display Port 1.4(ready), DVI no longer includes analog VGA signals. Dimensions stated as: a" x b" x c" are from mfgr websites - others are from reviews. Head to head to slightly faster than GTX 1060. Head to Head with plus versions of the GTX 1060.

50-70W more, on load, than the slightly less fast RX 480: albeit with a far better thermal target, not that good... I hope AMD will hit the spot, sooner or later.

My gut reaction too. But then I started to think, based on some observations in one of the reviews.
* The reason this new GPU has far more increase in power consumption than performance is that the clock speed is substantially increased while RAM badwidth, which was a limiting factor already for the RX 480, hasn't gone up one bit.
* Power consumption for the RX 580 in less demanding tasks, like idle or playing a DVD, is lower than for the RX 480.

My conclusion: If you take an RX 580 and underclock it to RX 480 level it will perform like an RX 480 (or marginally better) while using less power. With a bit of luck it's also possible to reduce the voltage with said underclock, to improve efficiency even more.
So I suppose the RX 580 can be seen as a gain in efficiency over the RX 480, given the right treatment!

Thanks - I don't bother to add a new site (beyond the standard ones I list) unless they can get their noise floor to 30dB or less...and really, the interesting stuff happens below 20dB. Or, if there's some really interesting other stuff they do to make it worthwhile. There's a few more std ones I haven't added, yet - out of time for now...and yeah, I'm familiar with TPU's database tool.
