Logo for SPCR?

Post by Bluefront » Thu Mar 25, 2004 4:27 pm

Is there one? If not why not? Seems to me there was some diccussion about a "quiet" case badge, with an SPCR theme. Don't think I ever saw anything come of it.

I've been playing around with some glass etching solutions. I'd like to etch an SPCR logo of some sort on a glass case window. I'm not an artist however, but I can copy things. Any ideas?

Heh...too big to be a logo however.

How about a pair of earplugs with the letters SPCR superimposed on them, and the line: "You can throw the earplugs away now" underneath.

Hmmm....looks like nothing ever came of that other thread. I think a case badge could be more complicated than a logo. A logo using "SPCR" in an artistic design might work.....

Hehe, well, i tried something, im quite a bad graphics person, logo looks poopy, but at least I tried!

http://www.quakel33t.com/spcr.jpg
its not quite symmetrical(the text), maybe some1 can critisize it! Anyway, Id really like for SPCR to have own logo, I'd put it on desktop!

Well that's really neat! And nice for a case badge, wallpaper, but maybe a little too "busy" for a logo. I'm thinking something more simple. If you reduce the size to say that of a desktop icon, the letters become unreadable. Keep trying. :D

We need to get MikeC involved, maybe with suggestions.....it's for him anyway.

yes, i can just proly simplify it, and just leave SPCR letters on a round blue shape. I'll try doing an icon tomorrow hopefully, see what i can come up with.

Yeah, I asked about a symbol for silent computing some time ago. That symbol would be perfect for SPCR, something like the USB and Firewire symbols.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that earmuffs/earplugs sends an ironic message that's actually opposite to our intent? It implies that using earmuffs/earplugs is a valid solution to computer noise, whereas I don't think anyone here would even consider it! Alternatively, the idea of muffling the noise of the computer is something which we do to a certain extent, but I think we all agree it's no replacement for using quiet components to begin with.

Maybe a more appropriate message would be to appeal to something famous for being quiet. Maybe a mouse, as in "quiet as a mouse". Perhaps a gliding owl. Perhaps a gliding owl swooping in on an unsuspecting mouse...

I sort-of agree. When I see head-phones, I tend to think someone is playing loud music, not being quiet. Ear muffs? Hard to tell the difference..

Yeah just trying it... any other ideas of simple images that would convey our message?

How about the 'finger stuck in ear' approach? Kind of crude, but I must agree with the previous post: it is hard to symbolize a computer that is quiet.

Methinks there are miillions of users out there that have no idea about 'quiet' computers. To create a logo that transfers an immediate idea is going to be very difficult.

But, considering the collective expertise on the SPCR forums, and the fact that it is truly global in nature, I am sure an appropriate logo will be rendered, submitted, and approved by a democratic majority. (Mike and Ralph excluded  )

Problem is that we want a symbol for silence, but silence is the absense of sound. The closest thing we can get to any absense symbol is the crossed circle.
The common symbol for could would be a speaker, so a circle with a crossed over speaker would be my vote. Not sure what text I do like around it. Perhaps just "SPCR" beneath.

How about...wait for it.... no don't bother it's not that good

What about a computer like PhilgB has (Just the comp.)... but with 'circles' or parts of, 'behind' or 'around' it (symbolising sound/noise 'radiation') and the whole thing in a circle with the standard cross/diagonal through it?

Gets my vote....

This morning as I was waking up, an image popped into my mind--a cartoon computer was winking at me with its index finger "shushing" across its mouth.

Good work on your logo efforts.

I like the first one better. The problem with the SRPC logo is to symbolize noise. Even harder is to symbolie the lack of noise.

I tryed to make a logo but the bloody f***ing M$ Win  crashed taking away 3 hours of work on the logo.

Are you sing SVG to draw your logos?

PhilgB,

Unless I'm mistaken, that moth thing is either taken from Silence of the Lambs, or from Vantec's "Silence of the Fans" ad campaign which was from the same source.

Unfortunately, Vantec fans has left a bad taste in my mouth, and an annoying buzz in my ear.

Yeah it was from Silence of the lambs... had I known about Vantec's half-assed campaign I wouldn't have bothered posting it...

Any other ideas for silence?

I was serious about the "bunny-foo-foo" thang. They have large ears and run away at the first hint of noise. Imagine a bunny sleeping next to or cuddling a SPCR case.....

Image

...not this bunny in particular... but ya'll get the drift don't ya, eh?
