silence and overclocking?
ok, i am an overclocker, but i hate noise!! so i got a quick Q... would the zalman 7000a-ALCU/CU cool suffiecently for an amd xp at 2.5 ghz and 1.9Vcore? i dont currrently have this, right now i have it at 2.3ghz and 1.71 vcore but asking for a barton mobile for Bday and if i get it then i will be oc'ing more... please post waht ur speed is and how hot it is...AND what rpms ur at...im going for the lowest rpms..i think 1400?

I know your pain...
I've been overclocking for a long time and suddenly I'm bitten by the silent bug.
And boy it's much harder overclocking without all those fans.
I run a Mobile 2500+@2530 , 1.9V.
It produces ~35% more heat than your current cpu , for a total of >110Watts....
I got a pretty good waterloop (except for small radiator) and it can cool it with fans @ 6V (not silent , but quiet) to 22-24°C over ambient @ load.
Based on experience , my waterloop @ 6V is ~7-8°C better than the SLK900U + smartfan2 (5.5k rpm) + 3x120mm noisy case fans it replaced @ ~100Watts....
In short , NO the zalman can't cool such a beast and even if it could , that's a LOT of heat to be expelled from the case.

Almost forgot (4 hours of C++ coding can mess with my head).
I also have a second PC with a mobile 2500+.
This one @ 2380 , 1.8V.
Cooling is SLK900U+Panaflo M1A , in a compucase 6A19 (fully modded) with 2x120mm Papst 4412FGL and an Antec true480.
With all fans @ 12V , it gets ~30°C over ambient @ load....

Hi, I did a quick test on my system. XP2500+, A7N8X, 7000A AlCu. I put the case fans to full speed (Panaflo 80mm L1A) and the Zalman to full speed (~2350rpm) and over clocked the CPU as far as it will go, 1.85V and 2365MHz. The diode temp seamed to settle about 60C with the case measuring 30C. This was running D2OL (effectively full load), CPU burn sent it up to 65C. I would guess this much load is close to the limit that the Zalman 7000 can handle.
With more modest overclock, 2200MHz & 1.675V, it cools fine even down to 1400RPM and below in cool weather. Below 1400RPM its noise level is below that of the HDD (80GB Barracuda ATA IV).
Hope this helps,
Seb
