This is an advertising video, but it is really fun.

Actually, nVidia are into the silencing steps MUCH farer that ATI, desplite using higher clocks = more heat = more noise to cool

It's because they offer user to set 2D and 3D clocks (core/memory), so you can have cool slower 2D card and 3D beast when start 3D application
And the best part? No problems with this found - at least not on my eVGA FX5700U card :!:

Also, nVidia offer temps sensors!

...unlike ATI...
(the too high temps recorded after FarCry 2h+ play, normaly my WC put them down to 26 degrees or such   :P )

PS. okay, some translation from the weird onscreen language is desirable
So it says:
Prahova hodnota zpomalení jadra = temp, where GPU core slow-down itself (like P4)
Teplota jadra GPU = temp of the GPU core
Teplota okolniho = temp of surrounding enviroment (means surrounding the card  )

trodas, do you know which cards that software works on?

Is it just for NForce stuff?

I guess my GeForce 3 is way too old?

Regards

Pete

Well, these are snapshots from normal Detonators 56.72 WHQ, that show it's options when you add coolbits to the registers:
http://ax2.wz.cz/coolbits.zip

Then you see, if your card is capable of the temperature measurings - sorry, Im not avare of any GF3 that can, but... I don't know anything, so try and don't listen to me

However Im pretty positive that most modern cards (at least all from the FX line) allow the dual clock - 2D / 3D
I have personally FX5200 from Chaintech, FX5600XT from Gigabite and FX5700U from eVGA. All these have the double-clock deafure. On none of the cards I observed any drawbacks from this. And Im very sensitive!
I for example complain, that the FX5600XT from Gigabite fade to black and then re-open the screen when being overclocked, while the 5200 and 5700U did not do this
However the temperature thing have only the FX5700U from eVGA. My quess is, that is necessary to look for at least middle-range cards to got these nifty features
I can only recommend the 5700U from eVGA. Tough mine go with FarCry as testing at the highest details only to 490/970Mhz (in most Q3 engines it did not showing a single glitch at 512/1.04Ghz), Im very happy with it, as FarCry at best details are VERY playable (around 35-45fps  8) ) and I have ATM only very poor Barton 3000+ CPU...

I don't know... All their good intentions don't really mean much when you get a video card cooler like that.

...anything wrong with nVidia FX5700U 490/970Mhz temps :?:

I once underclocked my Radeon 9800 to 200/400mhz. Left it going on for a bit then clocked it back to original speed and it corrupted my desktop. :/ Nice feature by Nvidia...

They simply trying IMHO to learn from their mistakes
BTW, these temps are for 490/970Mhz - Im mad overclocker and I want even the fastest 2D speed
With something like 250/400 is will be sure colder, but not very much colder, as the room temp are around 22-23 degrees 8)
...and my WC cooling if fanless - QUIET, to get back to topic on SPRC, the home of QUIET PCs :)

And now, even SpeedFan 4.12 can read the temperature sensors from nVidia cards 8)

Image

...well, memory hotter that GPU? Well, GPu is watercooled, memory is not cooled at all, except passive Tweakmonster heatsinks, obviously not enought for fanless case...
